After a 6 yard Toddrick Pendland run, we have the ball 2nd and 4 on the Sam 23 yard line. Todd then takes the ball off right tackle, blows by most of the Sam defenders, stiff arms the last on inside the 5 yard line and goes in for another TD. This makes the score, after the PAT, 42-21.
Sam gets the ball and begins driving. They have a 4th and 6 on our 23 yard line and go far it. Below, Darrell Jenkins makes the tackle on the play but they get 9 yards and a 1st down.
Later, they have 3rd and 4 on our 8 yard line. Due to a mix up in coverage, they throw a pass to a wide open RB who walks into the endzone. Now, the score is 42-28, a 14 point lead again and I'm feeling like we need to answer.
They kick the ball out of bounds on the kickoff, so we get the ball on our own 40. After a 3 yard Todd Pendland run, we have it 2nd and 7 on our 43. Derrick then hits TE Corday Clark in the middle. Corday spins out of tackle and goes up the left sideline. They final bring him down at the Sam 9 yard line after a 48 yard gain.
Todd gets one yard to the Sam 8 on the next play. Derrick then takes the ball, breaks through the line, and then just about walks into the endzone for an 8 yard TD run. With this TD, Derrick ties Kerry Joseph's school record of 90 TD's run and pass. This also gives us back a 21 point lead at 49-28 with 13:38 left and I'm feeling better.
That "feeling good" lasted about one play as Sam completes a 66 yard pass for a TD and we are back to 14 point lead at 49-35 with 13:18 left in the game. Below, Champlain Babin returns the following kickoff.
We need to answer. On this possession, after one first down and after a facemask penalty, we have it 2nd and 25 on our 26 yard line. Derrick throws a pass in the flat to Todd and he gets 24 yards to the 50 yard line making it 3rd and 1.
Derrick, instead of going straight ahead, goes left on a QB sneak, gets 2 yards for the first down.
Todd follows his blocking and gets 7 yards on the next play.
On the next play, we get called for a personal foul and we end up with 2nd and 18 from our 44 yard line. A wideopen Derrick Fourroux goes up the middle, cuts to the right, and goes down to the Sam 9 yard line for a first down.
On the next play, we give the ball to Richard Conner on the end around play. Behind some good blocking and making one tackler miss, Richard goes the final 9 yards for the TD. We have answered them again and our 21 point lead is back at 56-35. The question in my mind now is whether we are ever going to stop them.
After one first down, we have them 3rd and 7 on their 43. Desmund Lighten gets good pressure on this play and Joseph is barely able to get the pass away but it is incomplete. This brought 4th down and they punt. We finally held them!!!!
