They have to punt and we get the ball on our 41 yard line. On the first play Chad Davis goes 27 yards after catch a pass from Derrick.
Then Immanuel Friddle gets 16 yards on a run.
On 3rd and 5, Derrick gets 6 yards and a first down to the HSU 5 yard line.
After the teams exchange personal foul calls and a Derrick five yard run, we have 2nd and goal at the two yard line. Todd strolls into the endzone behind OG Miquel Geauthreaux for the TD. We kick the extra point and the score is 19-24 with a little over 10 minutes left in the game.
We need a stop to get the ball back. The defense stops a HSU Reddie for a short gain.
After a couple of HSU first downs, one of them a pass interference call on a 3rd and 8, the defense steps up again. Below, on a 1st and 10 Hayden Dobbs drops the HSU runningback for a one yard loss. This was followed by two incomplete passes to make it 4th and 11 and they have to punt.
The HSU punter shanks the punt, it only goes 9 yards out of bounds, and we get the ball back at our 48 with 5:39 on the clock. We get 10 yards and a first down on a pass to Wes Mangan. After a motion penalty and two incompletions, we have it 3rd and 15 on the HSU 47. Chad Davis catches a pass and gets 13 yards.
On 4th and 2, Derrick gets 4 yards and a first down on the HSU 30 yard line.
Todd Pendland then gets 25 yards on this run to the HSU 5.
Afer a couple of runs only netted one yard to the 4 yard line, it was 3rd and goal with only about 1:30 left on the clock. Derrick tries a pass to Chad Davis who was open in the back of the endzone but the pass was just a little short and the defender was able to bat the ball up and almost intercept it.
After a couple of timeouts, one by each team, it was 4th and goal from the 4 yardline with a 1:28 left in the game. Derrick Fourroux then keeps the ball up the middle right towards me. I remember him dodging two players before I remembered to hit the shutter release and get these two pictures as he crosses the goal line. It was one of the best four yard runs I've ever seen. This made the score 25-24.
We went for two and Todd Pendland dives into the endzone for the two points in this picture. This gave us a three point lead and the Reddies could only tie us with a FG. The time left on the clock was 1:24.
A shot of the cheerleaders doing pushups in the endzone after the score. They didn't do near enough pushups this game. :-)
HSU gets one first down and gets down to their 44. The next play was an incompete pass. Then a complete short pass to a runningback was sniffed out by Hayden Dobbs who tackles the runningback for no gain.
After two more incompletions on 3rd and 4th down, we get the ball back and kneel on it to end the game.
A shot of the final scoreboard.
Both teams, coaches, cheerleaders, etc. kneel at midfield for a final prayer.
The players go down to the bandstand to join in with the band in playing the Alma Mater.
Chad Davis gives a TV interview.
Since the fans get on the field for 10 minutes, some of the players visit with the fans in stands. They then head for the stairs where there is usually a big log jam of people waiting to visit with players at the top of the stairs.
Note: I can't make the trip next week so I'll be stuck at home watching the game on TV. That means there won't be any pictures of next weeks game from me. :-(
