Football Scrimmage-8/14/04 Page 1

I made it out to the first full scrimmage of August camp. It was held at the A. I. Ratcliff Practice Fields.

There was a very good crowd of fans that attended the scrimmage. Some of the jokes going around compared it to a Nicholls home crowd or a Texas St. Thursday night home crowd or that it would be counted as 15,000 in Monroe.

Greg David had Retrosports special order the Scott Pendarvis action figure shown below.

The offense had a good day, especially rushing the ball. RB Chris Jones set the pace of the day when he broke out and went 55 yards up the sidelines before the defense caught him on this run. Chris had 82 yards on 6 carries.

Several plays after Chris' run, FB Jason Miller takes the ball up the middle for a five yard TD run. Jason had 3 carries for 10 yards and one TD.

Kicker John Marino tacks on the PAT.

I think this is Brett McPhatter getting a carry (Both Brett and WR Henry Smith were wearing jerseys numbered 20). Brett had 2 carries for 9 yards.

Qb Scott Pendarvis puts up a pass. Scott only played one series and went 3 for 5 for 42 yards in the series.

Some of the Scott Pendarvis fan club on the sideline. Grandmother, aunt (if I remember right), mother, and grandfather.

Qb Chris Jones is tackled after rushing up the middle for a few yards. Chris went 2 for 8 for 17 yards passing and rushed 5 times for 27 yards in the scrimmage.

Freshman RB Steven Whitehead had some impressive runs in the scrimmage. He had 7 carries for 62 yards and two touchdowns in the scrimmage. Here, he makes a cut and causes a DB or two to miss.

The defense had its moments. Below, everybody scrambles for a fumble forced by the defense.

Chris Jones makes some good yardage on a broken play because of a fumbled snap.

Qb Courtland Greis gets pressured and eventually sacked.
