Saturday was a wet, dreary, cold day. I went out to take some pictures of the basketball game at 1 PM before heading to our tailgate area. When the basketball game was "rained out" , I should have known that was a bad omen for the day.

What actually happened was that the hard windy rain during the night had been blown through the two turbines on the very top of the Burton Coliseum roof. The water had drained down onto the scoreboard and was dripping on the floor. It had already quit doing it during the day. They lowered the scoreboard and tried to dry it off enough for it to almost quit dripping. There was almost no water left hitting the floor, but the Coastal Carolina Coach really wasn't wanting to play the game. He was only concerned about getting his team to Houston "before dark" where they were scheduled to play the U. of Houston in the next day or so. He said that the little drip was still a hazard and he refused to allow the game to be moved to the Memorial Gym because his contract said Burton Coliseum. He really just didn't want to play the game.

With the game cancelled, I headed out to the tailgate area. With everybody bundled up in their rain gear, it was harder to recognize people. Below, a shot of some of the Po-Boys crew.

The weather was so miserable, that ducks were coming in to land in the tailgate area. :-)

Kenny Cochran had "negotiated" with the Athletic Department and had paid to get a water and power hookup for his tailgate spot. ;-)

We had gumbo at our spot but had to cook it under the tent.

It rained off and on all day Saturday and there was definitely rain on the cowbell.

During a break in the rain, Andy and I decided to walk over and visit the Eastside Tailgating Area. On the way, we ran into Dwayne Bruette talking to Bill Pousson. And Dwayne was dressed in his normal shorts despite the weather.

I stopped by and took a picture of the remains of a tent which had earlier became a kite in the wind. The wind had blew it up and away about 100 feet and it landed on top of an RV next to the Po-Boys area. The owner was not very happy. Don't blame him, I had a popup tent setup in my backyard over my patio that got demolished the same day.

When we got to the Eastside, there was hardly any tailgaters there. The Fontenot's were there, though.

We went into the stadium and took look at the field. It had gotten painted and wasn't in too bad of a shape despite all the rain.

We headed back to the Westside. Passing by the SkyRanch entrance, we ran into former coach and now color commentator, Johnny Suydem. I like the hat.

We then hunkered down, checked the rain radar periodically, and waited until it was time to head for the stadium. I left for the stadium early and didn't catch the Band in the Tailgate areas.
